Jessica Pleyel is a MFA candidate at the University of Iowa’s Intermedia Art Department and conceptual artist and curator. Her studio practice is multi-faceted, and includes sculpture, costume design, performance, social practice, video, and playwriting. She explores familial relations, ecofeminism, gender activism, and the performative nature of hunting in her art. She has exhibited internationally in galleries such as The Article Gallery in the United Kingdom, The Beauty and Brawn Gallery in Chicago, and Davis Arts Center in California. She is the recipient of the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship, the Strategic Initiative Fund Fellowship, and the Ana Mendieta Memorial Scholarship.
Pleyel was selected to be a 2015 Obermann Graduate Fellow by the UI Obermann Center for Advanced Studies.
