Tray Ridlen is a fourth-year Ph.D. student in Eighteenth- and Nineteenth-Century European art.  He received a B.A. in Philosophy and Art History from Saint Louis University and an M.A. in Art History from the University of Iowa.  His M.A. thesis considered the revival of rococo aesthetics and ideas in August Renoir’s paintings.  In 2011, Tray spent time in Paris, analyzing the Louvre’s history paintings from the nineteenth century. Tray’s current research focuses on the relationship between classically-inspired visual culture and the philosophical ideals that inspired the French Revolutionary period.
