Wendy Parker is a fourth-year Ph.D. student specializing in modern and contemporary art. She received a B.A. in The History of Art and Literature from Keene State College and an M.A. in Art History from the University of Iowa. Wendy’s interest in politically engaged art began with her introduction to the work of the Dadas when she was an undergraduate, and she has followed that particular trend into the contemporary period throughout her graduate studies. Wendy’s M.A. thesis traced the history of photomontage used for political expression from the Dada period up to the present. For her Ph.D. research, Wendy is primarily interested in the work of Martha Rosler and is focusing on Rosler’s dexterity in moving between such modes of expression as photomontage and performance, suiting the medium to the subject matter according to her goals. Martha Rosler’s growing œuvre has its roots in Dada, Pop, Nouveau Réalisme, and Narrative Figuration, and Wendy’s continuing research will delineate those connections.
