Learn more about studio art opportunities

The studio division within the School of Art and Art History offers rigorous bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in nine studio disciplines. At one of the most recognized public research university art schools in the country, students at Iowa pursue a creative studio education comprised of learning traditional mediums and emerging technologies.

Complimented by the wider College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, our programs emphasize both doing and knowing. We encourage students to take advantage of study abroad and undergraduate research opportunities. Recognized for their inspiration, our faculty are working artists exhibiting nationally and internationally. Over 60 percent of the 600 students completing a degree in art take advantage of the many academic and intellectual opportunities of being part of a diverse research university, completing a second major within their four years at Iowa.

At Iowa, students explore their potential and merge fields like art and engineering, graphic design and informatics, painting and dance, printmaking and creative writing. Graduates leave the university with the practical and professional skills needed to pursue a life in visual art.
