Grants and fellowships

Halle Siepman

Iowa Arts Council grant

Halle Siepman, 2015 MFA graduate in painting and drawing, has been awarded a 2016 Iowa Arts Council grant for $8,170 to work on her project "Parthenon Drawings: Connecting Iowa to Greece." The project will visually reunite original classical Greek sculptures to the remnants of the sculptures in their present state in order to highlight the commonalities in Greek and Iowan architecture and culture.

College Art Association Professional Development Fellowship

Jaime Knight, MFA candidate in printmaking, is one of five national graduate recipients of the prestigious College Art Association Professional Development Fellowship. Fellows receive $5,000 grants to help further career goals.

Iowa Arts Council project grants

Mary Laube and Ian Etter, two MFA graduates and adjunct lecturers in the painting and drawing area, have received Iowa Arts Council individual artist project grants for 2014.

Manned Mock Mars Mission (MMMM)
Ian Etter will execute and exhibit the multi-media, performance based project, Manned Mock Mars Mission (MMMM). MMMM aims to connect the arts to science by blending the history of the settlement of the American West and the history of interplanetary exploration. The project seeks to engage Iowans in a conversation about the parallels inherent in artistic and scientific investigation.

Roses and Rue

Roses and Rue explores the relationship between two analogous genres: poetry and painting. Mary Laube will produce a series of paintings that correspond to poems written by Kiley McLaughlin, an Iowa City poet. Roses and Rue will be presented as a joint exhibition and reading for the public of Iowa City and its communities of poets and painters.
