Biography

Terry James Conrad is an artist and educator currently serving as the Iowa Print Media Associate Professor at the University of Iowa, where he also acts as liaison to Frogman’s Print Workshops. Originally from New York State, Conrad earned his BFA from Alfred University and his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. He has previously taught at Skidmore College and co-founded the Round Lake School—a preschool and artist residency in upstate New York—with his partner Rachel Ziegler-Sheridan, rooted in Reggio Emilia philosophies.

Conrad’s work spans printmaking, tool making, and sound, often emerging through interdisciplinary collaborations. He is currently developing a body of work—prints, instruments, and tools—in partnership with oceanographers Dr. Joan Bernhard and Dr. Catherine Davis, supported by a National Science Foundation Award. This project draws on his experience shadowing scientific teams on Pacific Ocean expeditions.

His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. In 2017, Conrad was named a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellow in Drawing, Printmaking, and Book Arts. He has held residencies at Frans Masereel Centrum (Belgium), the Elizabeth Murray Artist Residency, Penland School of Craft, and Vermont Studio Center.
