Through their antidisciplinary and conceptually research driven practice, Evan McHenry (b. 1998; Minneapolis, MN) investigates the unjust hierarchies present in society and the negative impacts they impose on interconnected social and ecological domains. Drawing on the material sensibilities of Arte Povera, Anarchitecture, and the Gutai Movement, as well as global philosophical and political theory, McHenry utilizes contemporary and anachronistic methods to examine themes of entropy and ephemerality, materiality and incorporeality, and the histories of left-wing political movements to engender environments that challenge preconceived notions and propose questions, rather than provide answers.

They received their BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design with a concentration in Sculpture and are working on their MFA at the University of Iowa in Sculpture & Intermedia. Their work has been shown at Mirror Lab in Minneapolis, Squirrel Haus Gallery in Minneapolis, Minnesota Center for the Book Arts for the 2023 New Editions Showcase and were selected for the International Sculpture Centers 2026 Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award.
