She received her BA in art history from the University of California, Davis, where she conducted research on French Gothic architecture as well as Gothic and Renaissance stained glass. Her MA Qualifying Paper analyzed the relationships among the façades of Reims Cathedral, focusing on the development of their designs throughout the course of the cathedral’s construction. Her dissertation builds upon her Qualifying Paper to consider the design, geometry, precedents, and reception of the west façade of Reims.
In 2019, Monica interned at the Arts Benica nonprofit gallery in Benicia, California. Since 2021, she has been a participant of The Enriched Timeline Research Project, a digital project through UCLA consisting of graphic timelines that trace the evolution of select medieval monuments in Europe. Monica created the timeline for Reims Cathedral, documenting the building’s construction phases, historical context, and historiography.
