Rachel is a second year PhD student with a focus on Modern art. She received a BA from Kalamazoo College in 2016 where she studied Art History, Philosophy, and Literature and graduated cum laude while playing Women’s Varsity Softball. She attended the University of Iowa and received her MA in Art History in 2018. Her qualifying thesis explored the relationship between Modern art – most notably Surrealism and Dada – and the rise in popularity of science fiction literature and how the two worked to disclose metanarratives of Western society. She took a year off and lived in Chicago to explore the art, culture, and numerous museums the city had to offer. She is now back at the University of Iowa and hopes to continue her research into the relationships between Modern art and science fiction.
