Shelby Welte is an artist working in photography and bookmaking. Originally from the Midwest, she received her BA in Film and Photography from Montana State University and is currently a first-year graduate student pursuing an MFA at the University of Iowa. 

While Shelby has photography experience both commercially and in the environmental sphere, her interests lie in the experimental realm. Her work, which includes abstract chromogenic images, inherited family archives, and bookmaking techniques, explores themes of lineage, grief, the loss of connections to relatives we may not really know, and the motivations behind our pursuit of relationships.
