The School of Art & Art History provides a creative, multidisciplinary environment for students of the studio arts and the history of art. Established in 1936, the school is firmly grounded in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. It encourages interaction among its diverse faculty as well as collaboration with related disciplines across campus.

At Iowa, students are surrounded by art. There are sculptures throughout the campus and students attend classes in University buildings designed by well-known architects. Art and art history majors work with faculty members who have national and international reputations, and whose art and research are included in collections all over the world.

The UI's art and art history graduates enjoy success as practicing professional artists, professors of art history, teachers, museum directors and curators, theater designers, commercial designers, and art administrators.

With its strong tradition of innovation, an atmosphere that nurtures creativity, and a wealth of resources, it’s no wonder that art is one of the UI's most popular undergraduate majors.
