EQUIPMENT & LAB ACCESS
School of Art and Art History registered students can investigate both traditional and experimental approaches to materials and processes through the use of shared resources. Priority access to resources is concurrent with course enrollment. Other students may be eligible to gain access after curricular needs are met and training protocols completed. Some areas require a proposal and may have fees associated with use.
CNC PROTOTYPING VAB W150B–C, W156
Includes milling machine, lathe, plasma-cutter, laser-cutter, and water jet. Training is required by course instructor.
EMBROIDERY MACHINE VAB E 350
Bernina 880 plus with embroidery module. Training is required from course instructor.
EQUIPMENT CHECKOUT CENTER VAB E120
Professional production equipment for research, exhibition, and curricular needs. Equipment availability coincides with course enrollment and experience level.
FOUNDRY & FABRICATION W251
Metal fabrication and hot metal casting facility equipped with a wide array of processes including MIG and TIG spot welding, plasma cutting, and a gas forge. Curricular priority for Sculpture & Intermedia, other programs are considered by proposal, training is required.
GRAPHIC DESIGN PRODUCTION STUDIO ABW 130
Equipped with iMacs, large format printers, Glowforge laser, vinyl cutter, tabletop milling machine, and a direct-to-garment printer. The studio sells vinyl, specialty papers, and carving materials. Curricular priority for Graphic Design, other programs by appointment request or proposal.
LIGHTING STUDIOS VAB E226 & E342
E226 large-works lighting studio is equipped with a camera, tripod, processing station, backdrops, and adjustable lighting. Curricular priority for Photography and 3D Design, other programs by appointment request. E342 tabletop lighting studio equipped with a sweep and adjustable lighting. Curricular priority for Ceramics and Jewelry & Metals, other programs by appointment request.
PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT W108
From this center, currently enrolled Photography students are able to borrow equipment. Borrowing privileges are concurrent with enrollment in Photography courses.
SPRAY BOOTHS VAB W145 & E425
Located on the 1st and 4th floors, students should safely utilize the booths when applying materials that may release harmful or nuisance vaports during use, training is required.
SOUND DESIGN SUITE VAB E126
Can be reserved for instruction as well as personal research and is equipped with 5.1 surround, large display monitors, amplifier, keyboard, mics, video and sound editing software: Logic, Audacity, and Audition.
WOODSHOP VAB W147
Fully functional woodshop facility that includes a sanding room and CNC router. Instructor training and fees are required.
WAX & PLASTER ROOMS VAB W207 & W209
Casting and forming facilities used to explore working with plaster, wax, and rubber mold silastics. Curricular priority for Sculpture & Intermedia, Jewely & Metals, and Ceramics. Other programs are considered by proposal which may require training by the instructor or Studio Specialist.
